Not disheartened, he went to talk with the company a few times. “I went to Japan again at one time even while I was sick. I had to take connecting flights and vehicle transfers to get to the company. I was so weak that I almost fainted at their main entrance.” But his ‘bigotry’ touched the Japanese CEO, who agreed to let him try selling 500 car battery stabilisers first. “See me again when you have finished selling these 500 units this year,” the Japanese CEO said.

“I sold them all in a week! So I went to get another 5000 units.” The Japanese CEO was shocked, and asked him whether he had given them all out or actually sold them. “Yet I sold all the 5000 units in a month! This time he was absolutely impressed, and he asked me which countries I would like for sole distributorship. I told him I would be happy with just Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.” Mr Vincent Tan received a pleasant surprise when the Japanese manufacturer sent the sole distributorship letter—they offered him a worldwide agency instead! The Japanese CEO said, “Lots of people have approached me for a world wide agency. They only talked big. But your way was very practical and trustworthy.”
